The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA 2004) is the federal special education law. It gives specific requirements to ensure that students with disabilities receive the services they need to achieve their educational goals.

SEAC members can participate in supporting special education legislation to ensure that the state and federal laws protecting the rights of people with disabilities remain strong. The federal special education law is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA).

PACER publishes written materials and provides workshops on IDEA to inform parents and professionals of their rights and responsibilities under the law.
